The Raketa watch was first produced at the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in 1961. Raketa means "Rocket" in Russian, and was named after the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's flight on the space shuttle Soyuz (Союз). Raketa watches are very reliable because the primary mechanics were developed in-house rather than using foreign technology. Raketas are very simple and highly repairable, making them one of the most reliable brands from the USSR. In addition, Raketas work well in low temperatures; in fact, the caliber 2623.H and other 24-hour models were used by the Soviet polar workers in the antarctic. In the 1960s and 1970s, Raketas offered traditional dial designs, but there were also unique, stunningly-beautiful models that are still appreciated by collectors around the world. When buying a Raketa, you will always be sure of an accurate watch with a reliable movement. And the beautiful and bright designs please the eye - even after years of use.
